RECORDING ENGINEER
Provide technical expertise to support the artistic vision of the producer and musician.
PRE-PRODUCTION
Work with producer on venue selection and technical needs of the project.
Cartage and venue logistics.
Organize equipment rentals (if necessary).
Patch lists and microphone plots.
Build sessions and tempo maps (for film scoring and overdub sessions).
PRODUCTION
Audio network design and communications (stage boxes, talkback, monitoring, video, red light, etc...)
Equipment set up and tear down.
Work with producer to ensure that the audio capture matches the musician's artistic vision and is stylistically appropriate.
Identify and address technical concerns that may have an impact on audio capture (HVAC, RF or electrical noise, squeaky piano bench, etc...)
Balance of microphones for monitoring and playback.
Session documentation. Making sure that all files are properly identified and organized. Positional information for all microphones and musicians/instruments on stage.
